Firelighter Films was set up in 2023 by Katie Toon. The company specialises in highlighting underrepresented stories that aren't usually told in the mainstream media. 
Our short films have been nominated at various film festivals such as Sunrise Film festival, RS Film Festival, AIMAFF and The Global Lift Off Network. With 'Mabel' being recognised with an Audience choice award at The Global Lift Off Network, an Honourable mention at AIMAFF and is currently nominated at BIFA qualifying Sunrise Film Festival in Best UK student short, Best Drama and Best cinematography categories.
Meet the team:
Katie Toon is a filmmaker originally from West Yorkshire and currently based in Bristol, United Kingdom.  
In 2022, Katie left her job to pursue freelance film work full time. During this time, she has built up quite the portfolio to establish herself as a unit stills and behind the scenes photographer, Whilst also working on her own film projects in her spare time.  Recently Katie was invited to work on two short films for multi award winning directors Paul Holbrook and Kwame Lestrade for two short films with Bristol based charity Integrate UK. 
Katie graduated Screenology Film School with a first class honours bachelors of Arts degree in creative filmmaking in 2023. During her time at film school Katie spent most of her time working on her first short film 'The Prevention Line', which was selected and given a special mention at the RS Film Festival in Bristol. It was also At this festival where Katie was awarded the title of 'student filmmaker of the year' 2022. Most recently In July 2023 her final major project 'Mabel' was awarded the 'Audience Choice award' at the Lift Off Global Network Sessions, given an Honourable mention at AIMAFF and has been nominated as a finalist in the drama film category at the RS Film Festival.
